SoulSistah was founded in 2016 as a performance collective exploring intuitive and performative approaches to sound, music, and movement. The group recorded improvised sessions of music, poetry, and movement, refining them through intuitive concepts of rule-based editing.

Over the years, SoulSistah has evolved into a dynamic duo comprising of performance artists PerViktor Hjalmarsson and Alm Gnista. The group’s focus has shifted toward live, performative experiences, embracing spontaneity and presence.

SoulSistah’s work spans diverse contexts, from forests to weddings and urban spaces in Sweden and Finland. These improvised pop-up performances—referred to as ”actions”—serve as experimental tools to explore collaboration and response. Working both as a duo and with fellow artists, such as Swedish poet and performance artist Mauritz Tistelö (who introduced the duo to the ”action” concept), SoulSistah continuously investigates the boundaries of creative expression.

The collective has participated in the following events and festivals:

  • Gyllebo Performance Festival, Skåne (2025)
  • Ikielo – Permaculture festival, Karjalohja (2025)
  • PAU – Open Home Festival, Helsinki (2024)
  • Vaunumäki Summer Fest, Karjalohja (2023)
  • Riverside Freak Circus, Fiskars (2020)
  • Faces Etno Festival, Karjaa (2020)
  • Gyllebo Performance Festival, Skåne (2019)
  • Poetry Nights, Karjaa (2018)
  • Poetry Nights, Tammisaari (2018)

Publications:

  • SoulSistah Concept Remix 8, ArtFirst records (2018)

At its core, SoulSistah is driven by a curiosity for transformation and decomposition—embracing the ephemeral nature of sound, movement, intuition, and collaboration to create meaningful connections and moments of reflection.
